It was just yesterday that I graduated from Durant Road Middle School and entered high school, Being just a little freshman walking through the crowded halls looking like a fool, As I struggled from getting to class to class, Just hoping that I wouldn't be late and have to get a cats on time pass, A lot of great memories have come from my journey at Millbrook, And I will always cherish them and remember them like they're written in a book, I love how I've gotten to make many new friends, I hope that I get to keep them as my high school career ends, It is time that we all go our own ways and begin to grow up, As we depart and go to different schools and make sure wo don't tear-up, It's been an amazing four years of my life, It's hard to say goodbye, like being stabbed with a knife.

Step 1: After analyzing Whitman's notebook, the first thing I want to touch on is how messy yet elegant his handwriting.  Although it is very hard to read and piece any of the words together, his strokes look very smooth and done with precision.  All that matters is that he can read what he is writing because it is his notebook.  Another thing I noticed is how the notebook was described as small and that it could fit in a poet's coat pocket and how he might have had it with him when he first saw Abe Lincoln.  I find it fascinating how Whitman was so committed to being a poet that he kept a pocket sized notebook with him probably at all times.  Lastly, towards the end of his notebook are multiple sketches and one might not think much of them but they really stuck out to me and made me think about multiple questions like: "Who could that be?" 1. The "American Dream" has meant two different things to me in my life span.  Growing up, I always believed that the "American Dream" was an idea or concept that people from troubled countries with poverty or unequal rights would travel to the United States in order to run their own business to make money.  I do not know why I thought they had to run their own business, maybe it was an influence from movies I had seen growing up, but for whatever reason I thought that the immigrant had to run their own business.  And with the idea of running their own business, the immigrant believed that they would have the equal rights of all other Americans because that was a part of the  "American Dream."  After growing up and paying attention to today's society, the true meaning of the  "American Dream" is being able to move into America without having to be worried that you (an immigrant) will not be able to find a job or you will not be given the same...

I Bed to Differ Translation #1:  Gregory Samsa woke from uneasy dreams one morning to find himself changed into a giant bug. When looking at this translation, the first thing that stuck out in my mind was how this translation has the name as Gregory instead of Gregor like the other 3.  This is a very strange piece of diction because names are usually not changed or different in translations.  Another choice of word that was very strange to me was the use of the word "changed".  When I think of someone who went to bed as a human and woke up as a bug I would describe that as a transformation, like the translators did in the other three.  The translator uses the descriptive word "uneasy" to describe what type of dreams Gregory was having and it makes the reader think that is was something that caused him not to want to keep sleeping. I chose the excerpt from Chapter 1 for Mr. Hyde and the excerpt from Chapter 3 for Dr. Jekyll The first thing to point out is that when Mr. Hyde is being described he is being described by Mr. Enfield based on a memory but Dr. Jekyll is being described through his very own actions and his conversation with Mr. Utterson.  As shown in the first excerpt, Hyde is initially described as a hideous and deformed man by Enfield and he says that he has never disliked anyone as much as Hyde.  And this is all based on looks and his appearance.  There is no evidence or reasoning to him disliking Hyde.  Mr. Enfield describes him as very "extraordinary".  As shown in the second excerpt, Dr. Jekyll is talking and using a very prestige vocabulary, showing his intelligence.  He also is described as a caring man who shows a sincere and warm affection towards Utterson and a man with a smooth face and a stylish cast.  At the end of the conversation when Utterson brings...

The name that I was given when I was born was Christian, and to this day I go by Christian, not Chris and not anything else.  My parents went through one book of baby names and they started to make a list potential names for me.  Once they came across the name Christian, they knew that that is the name they wanted to give me.  Although they did finish the book, no name could change their minds.  They really loved the name Christian and it was also a religious name (both of my brothers and I were named after Christianity names).  I love my name because it automatically makes people assume that I am a Christian without me having to tell them.  When I think about the idea that there are "two of me," I think about how I am a student and an athlete and how the conflict with each other quit often.  Being a student-athlete is hard, especially because I am in IB.  There are lots of times where I have to miss a baseball...

This picture was taken by Wing Young Huie, a famous photographer, in 2012 and posted to an online photo album for people to purchase.  When looking at this picture, you can see what looks like a father watching his son at a dinner table.  They look to be in the kitchen; you can see paper towels as well as a cabinet with plates and bowls inside.  The son has a bowl of food in front of him but the father does not.  After examining this picture's meaning, I came across the idea about how parents will always provide for their children before themselves.  This is a big "idea" in today's society that parents do everything for their children because their children are the most important thing in their lives.  I really liked this photo and the message from it because I could relate to the child in this picture.  Everything my parents do in life is to make me happy and make sure that I have everything I need in order to surviv...
